152,134 visitors! CHINAPLAS 2021 concludes at high note
The four-day CHINAPLAS 2021 drew down its curtain yesterday (April 16) in Shenzhen, China. A total of 152,134 visitors have attended the iconic exhibition. Despite shadowed by the COVID-19 pandemic and holding the exhibition at a new venue, Shenzhen World Exhibition & Convention Center, CHINAPLAS once again proved itself to be a high standard platform for presenting new technologies and sourcing latest products for the plastics and rubber industries.
The last show day yesterday welcomed a total of 9,637 (local: 9,442; overseas: 195) visitors. Although the total visitor number of this year’s CHINAPLAS dropped 6.85%, the number of local visitors has increased by 23.46% compared with the previous edition in Guangzhou in 2019.

In addition, hundreds of thousands of live-stream views have been recorded from CHINAPLAS Official Live Streaming platform and TechHub@CPRJ Live Streaming by official online media, CPRJ. Such wide broadcast coverage has helped CHINAPLAS reach out to global buyers throughout the past four days.
Increasing interest in circular economy and carbon neutrality
During the TechHub@CPRJ Live Streaming event organized by CPRJ, exhibitors talked about their innovations launched to keep pace with market trends.
LG Chem noted that the company has set the goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. “To realize this goal, we are working to use 100% renewable energy in all of our factories around the world, develop CCUS technology and replace petroleum-based materials with bio-based materials,” stated Erin Jung, Director of Petrochemicals Guangzhou Sales Department of LG Chem.
At LG Chem’s booth, a new environmentally friendly plastic developed in South Korea was presented. “It is made by mixing post-consumer plastics (PCR) with new materials. This PCR ABS material we developed is in light-color or even white, and can be used in home appliances,” introduced Erin Jung.
In order to fulfill the targets of “peak carbon dioxide emissions” and “carbon neutrality”, Erin Jung believes that a lot of industries are advancing their development or R&D. “As a chemical raw material corporate, LG Chem will also actively accelerate the progress of circular economy.”

The Chinese market is concerned about the plastic circular economy. According to Flora Song, Marketing Specialist of EREMA, China is a very important market for EREMA where orders and turnover from China have been significantly increasing.
Also, the recycling of post-consumer materials attracts more attention now, Flora Song said. She named Europe as an example that the use of post-consumer recyclables has become a hot topic in the European plastics industry because of the implementation of EU recycling regulations.
By providing the relevant recycling technology, EREMA has been contributing to ensure the high quality of recyclables for applications in the cosmetics and food packaging industries, Flora Song added.

Additionally, Evonik displayed a multi-layer tube system MLT 8000 based on VESTAMID. The cooling pipe made from it helps automotive manufacturers to design more efficient thermal energy management systems.
Talking about the development trends of electric vehicle, Janny Ji pointed out that they are about battery lifespan and safety. Overall performance of electric vehicle components can be improved by using advanced engineering plastics and this will be a broad space for development in the plastics and rubber industry.

Concurrent events reflect new trends of plastics
Apart from countless exhibits and showcases, CHINAPLAS 2021 brought about a series of concurrent events under the theme of “New Era. New Potential. Innovation for Sustainability”, supporting the plastics and rubber industries to grasp market opportunities and get ready for the challenges in the new era.
The concurrent events include: “Industry 4.0 Factory of the Future”, “Design x Innovation”, “Medical Plastics Connect”, “Tech Talk”, “SciXplore Forum”, and “Applications In Focus”.
Review of countless exhibits
With an exhibition area of over 350,000 square meters, CHINAPLAS 2021 hosted more than 3,600 leading exhibitors from over the world, showcasing 3,800-plus machines, raw materials, chemicals and other solutions.
Positive visitor feedback
"I participated in the Industry 4.0 Factory of the Future event. I believe smart production is certainly a development trend while there are still a lot of technical challenges we have to overcome. CHINAPLAS is taking place in Shenzhen this year for the first time and I have very good experience here," Franky Lin said.

"When I passed by the "WAVE" installation art, I couldn’t help stopping to take photos. I think it symbolizes the infinite possibilities of the circular economy and points to the direction of sustainable development for the entire plastics industry. I have great expectations for the Industry 4.0 Factory of the Future event," commented Wells Xing.
