LS Mtron to Demonstrate Next-level Automotive, Packaging IMMs at NPE 2024

Precision molding machines produce superior parts, can combine virgin and recycled materials

Answering intense demand for injection molding machines (IMMs) for the packaging/logistics and automotive sectors, Korea’s LS Mtron will showcase the latest offerings in its portfolio at NPE 2024 in Orlando in May.

LS Mtron machines are answering the most pressing issues facing these market segments — from molding high-precision parts and EV battery components to incorporating recycled materials. As more mandates are issued to steer manufacturers toward post-use material usage, LS Mtron offers customizable solutions that can use both virgin and recycled materials.

Boasting the show’s largest booth space devoted to IMMs, LS Mtron will demonstrate its cutting-edge equipment at its 13,500-square-foot at the Orange County Convention Center from May 6-10. The display will showcase LS Mtron’s diversity of small- to large-tonnage machines — relied upon daily by major global brands like Hyundai Motor Group.

LS Mtron’s current success can be traced back to the company’s origins in the LG Group, from which emerged the LS Group in 2003. LS Mtron was officially established by the LS Group in 2008, but its origin dates to 1969 when LG — known as Lucky Goldstar until 1995 — began building IMMs under license from Toshiba to supply LG companies. Owned by the Koo family, LS is one of Korea’s largest companies. LS has more than 25,000 employees and over $30 billion in sales.

Automotive

Leading the company’s NPE display for high-precision molding of automotive parts is the company’s the ONE* series, a premium two-Platen IMM ideal for producing larger parts with heavier molds, and requiring precision and detailed surface treatment. The company will demonstrate the ONE*-1400 producing the rear door side trim with clean surface finish for a Hyundai Motor Group vehicle.

Boasting a minimal defect rate, the ONE* series also offers:

- Heavy mold carrying weight of 2.5% of machine tonnage is allowed.

- 1000mm/second moving platen speed.

- Quick barrel change system.

- Optional Tie Bar Puller for mold changes with low ceiling height.

Packaging/Logistics

A trio of machines will also demonstrate a packaging concept in which three components are combined into a folding box:

- The LSG 600H, a midsize servo-hydraulic two-Platen IMM with a large, high-performance plasticizing unit, quick-change barrel system and oil-leak prevention. Fast, precise clamping ensures fast cycle times, and a digital position encoder facilitates tight control.

- The ONE*-550, like its larger cousin the ONE*-1400, exhibits high productivity with minimal defect rate, ease of maintenance and heavy-duty mold weight capacity.

The LSG 500E, a fully electric machine available from 35 to 950 tons, ensures fast cycle times thanks to independently operating servo motors and rigid clamping. Extended tie-bar distance keeps platen distortion to a minimum. Dual-cylinder nozzle touch force maintains injection unit parallelism to prevent resin leaks.

Other models LS Mtron will showcase include:

- The LSG 165-VL, equipped with rotary table, is optimized to produce a wide range of insert molded parts, including batteries for electric vehicles (EVs), electronic parts and other insert applications. Available from 35 to 600 tons, with vertical or horizontal injection configurations, this model features a low-floor vertical injection unit for operator convenience and safety. Its hybrid system enhances precision while saving energy — a departure from traditional vertical machines. This model’s insert-molding capabilities — used by Hyundai Motor Group— will be showcased.

- The LSG 900HPMC (Hydraulic, Piggy-back, Multi-Component), which meets demand for sustainable manufacturing methods that blend virgin and recycled materials. This machine’s specialty is sandwich molding, in which virgin materials on the surface layer are joined with core layers of recycled materials to ensure structural integrity with a high-quality appearance.

About LS Mtron Injection Molding Machines

LS Mtron is part of the LS Group, a South Korean-based conglomerate with over 25,000 employees, annual revenues of over $30 billion and profit of approximately $1 billion. LS Mtron Injection Molding Machines (LS IMM), a division of LS Mtron, was started in 1969 by South Korean tech giant LG Corporation, one of the world’s largest plastic molders. Founded initially to satisfy their own production needs for injection molded components used in their world-famous TVs, appliances, electronics, and other products, today LS IMM produces around 3,000 machines per year, not only for use by our network of LS-related and LG-founded companies but also for thousands of molders around the world.

Beginning with the development of Korea’s first injection molding machines, LS IMM prides itself on quality, service and fast deliveries. The combined strength of the LS family of companies allows us to solve many of the world’s supply-chain challenges. Because of this, LS IMM can provide new custom molding machines to our customers in North America in just 100 days from casting to cargo, or even faster from our stocked inventory.
